Purling London Art, Bold and Heritage Chess pieces are hand-carved from the very finest hardwoods, all in the same characteristic Purling Staunton style. Each chess piece is hand-finished with heavy weighting (for stable, accurate and satisfying play) and a beautiful Italian Nappa leather felt with the Purling logo embossed in 18 carat gold. All our chess piece sets are inspected for the highest quality and assembled at our studios in London, England.
Our wooden chess set collection extends from traditional ‘Heritage Chess’ in solid Ebony & Boxwood, to contemporary and unique ‘Art Chess’ hand-painted by one of 30 of our artist collaborators including Caio Locke, Thierry Noir, Kate Brinkworth and Inkie. Our most popular range is ‘Bold Chess’. These chess pieces are hand-carved Boxwood, painted with deep lustrous lacquers in your choice of colours.
We also offer Stone Chess sets, with pieces made from Italian alabaster. These solid alabaster turned and hand-carved pieces are polished to a beautiful glossy finish and also come complete with Italian Nappa leather felts with the Purling logo embossed in 18 carat gold.
All Purling Chess pieces and Games are presented in luxury, branded gift boxes and are shipped by express courier globally.
We also offer a bespoke range of chess pieces and boards that are created to the client’s requirements. Often customers choose to reflect the colours of their home interior design, their classic car or their company’s branding in Bespoke Bold Chess. Other customers select their favourite Art Chess artist to hand-paint a set in their trademark style with a specific theme or palette.
Recent commissions have included an aquarium themed set by Inkie, a metallic ‘Sarigan Quartz’ grey set to match the client’s McLaren supercar and a painterly purple, blue and gold palette to compliment a drawing room by Olivia Pilling. We would be delighted to discuss your inspirations for your perfect chess pieces, backgammon or checkers sets. Please get in touch with the Purling team via the contact form below.
